Letters From The Ledge

Winner of the Next Generation Indie Book Award.

Every night he comes to the ledge.

So far, he hasn’t jumped.

Sarah watches him from her window, unable to look away. Will tonight will be the night that his body hurtles through space and crashes to the ground in a failed attempt to fly?

Standing between heaven and hell, life and death, eighteen-year-old Brendan massages the ledge, arms outstretched, contemplating death. Cutting isn’t cutting it. Drugs can’t numb the pain. His best friend is dead, and his wealthy parents are nothing like the polished image they show the rest of the world. Between his father's abuse and his mother's alcoholic neglect, their Manhattan penthouse feels more like a prison than a home. Paige and Nate are watching from their fire escape, teetering on the edge after a brutal rape has shattered their life together. Watching is one thing, but how they can stand by and do nothing?

When they all meet in their everyday lives, things get complicated, turning the night-time voyeurism into a day-to-day game of life and death.

Can Brendan get past Tess’ suicide and find a way forward? Can Sarah find the courage to confront him? Will Nate get to him in time?

This hauntingly beautiful coming of age tale will make you laugh, cry, rage and cheer. We are all human, all fallible, and all want to believe the lies we tell ourselves.

I felt so many emotions reading this book! Some heart warming, some bring actual tears, some a reaffirmation of all that is good in this world!

Bravo and thanks to author Lynda Meyers for writing such a captivating story!

For me, it was an exquisitely written tale of dealing with pain, family, and life. I’d give this book to every teenager, no matter where they are living. But for those of us who look at the world and wonder why some of us don’t make better choices, this was so fascinating. Just be prepared to stay awake because you may not be able to put it down...

The back stories are raw and the language is authentic. The theory of six degrees of separation comes to life as a “ledge walker, window watcher and fire escape sitter” take to the night skies high above Midtown Manhattan. You will find yourself immersed in the lives of these characters, maybe even identifying with parts of them, making it easy to turn the page and nearly impossible to put down.

This book was extremely compelling, and I was totally addicted to it! I started and finished it in 2 days. The story line is genius. Lynda worked the characters together in a magical way and it just fit. I would recommend this one to anybody looking for a book that has meaning and depth behind it. It makes you think. The issues that the characters address are hard and real. It’s raw. Lynda Meyers is a masterful artist with a pen and I eagerly await her next book!
